Dumbwaiters

Modern Applications for an Old Technology

Matot's Core Product - manufacturing high-quality dumbwaiters since 1888

Dumbwaiters are typically the most economical choice for a lift system.  Available in any size configuration up to:  39″ deep x 39″ wide x 48″ high and usually carrying 100-750 lbs.  Dumbwaiters can stop at counter height for hand loading or floor level for carts and hand trucks.  If the dimensions you need exceed those listed above,  you probably want to view our Material Lift Products, which handle heavier capacities and larger dimensions.  Matot will custom engineer and manufacture any variation of dimensions at no extra charge.  No company has more expertise or knowledge than us.  We are here to guide you through the design process.

Commonly Asked Questions

How does a dumbwaiter work?
A dumbwaiter is a movable frame, and is powered by an electrical motor that guides the shaft on a set of rails.
How often should dumbwaiter maintenance take place?

A regular maintenance plan is crucial in ensuring that a dumbwaiter is operating correctly. At the minimum, dumbwaiter maintenance should take place every three months. A maintenance contract with a dumbwaiter installation company or another qualified local maintenance provider is also recommended.

Do all dumbwaiters require manual operation?

While earlier models of dumbwaiters often required manual operation, modern dumbwaiters do not. Today the majority of dumbwaiters are electric (automatic) and, as a result, are safer than in any other time in history.

What is the difference between a dumbwaiter and an elevator?
The most significant difference between dumbwaiters and elevators is that they serve completely different functions. Elevators carry passengers primarily while dumbwaiters solely carry items across floors while unattended. Additionally, dumbwaiters are more space-efficient than elevators, utilizing up to 50%-75% less space.
Are there standard sizes of dumbwaiters or can custom sizes be provided?

While some commonly used car sizes are shown on this website, most dumbwaiters have some unique, custom characteristics such as floor-to-floor height.  The dumbwaiter size can always be customized to fit the material to be transported.  Typical shaft clearances shown on this website remain constant for different car sizes selected.
