Material Lifts

Work Horse Floor Loading Material Lifts

Material lifts are used, according to code, when the dimensions for a dumbwaiter (39″d x 39″w x 48″h) are exceeded.  They are almost always floor loading and sizes are restricted to a maximum of 48″ wide, no depth restriction and a maximum of 90″ high.  If you are unsure what the dimensions you need are, please give us a call.  We are the experts at determining the best lift product to suit your particular needs:  800.369.1070

Commonly Asked Questions

How are most material lifts used?

The larger weight capacity of material lifts (up to 2,500 pounds) makes them ideal for moving heavy freight in commercial and industrial applications. Industries that commonly use material lifts include manufacturing facilities, refineries, and mills.

What codes must buildings adhere to for a material lift installation?

Building codes for material lift installations vary depending on location but there are several that are most commonly required. A few examples of potential codes include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. NFPA 70 - The National Electrical Code (NEC) is the standard for safe electrical design, installation and inspection and is adopted in all 50 states.
  2. ASME/UL - The 10B Fire Tests of Door Assemblies helps to verify the compliance of door assemblies for use in locations where fire resistance for a specific period is required.
  3. ASME/UL 508 - This code serves as the technical standard for industrial control panels in the United States.
What’s the difference between a material lift and a dumbwaiter?
Generally speaking, material lifts serve the same function as dumbwaiters: the transportation of items between multiple levels. The main difference between material lifts and dumbwaiters is that they have different weight capacities. Dumbwaiters can carry up to 750 pounds while material lifts have a limit of up to 2,500.
